The challenge
Teaching live, running everything else by hand
While building Qalb Academy, we saw the same problems again and again. Many teachers and academies teach live, one student at a time, but run everything else by hand.
- No website of their own.
Most teachers find students through social media and word of mouth. They have no professional place where students can see their programs and sign up.
- Custom systems cost too much.
A system like the one we built for Qalb Academy is out of reach for most independent teachers and small academies.
- Big platforms don't fit.
Most learning platforms are made for recorded courses, not live 1:1 teaching, and they put their own brand in front of the teacher's.
- Lessons happen on general video apps.
Video calls work, but there's no shared whiteboard tied to the lesson, and no way for a supervisor to check quality quietly.
- No clear learning path.
Lessons, levels and student progress live in notebooks and spreadsheets.
- Exams are separate from progress.
Tests are done on paper or forms, and results don't connect to the student's record.
- Parents ask for updates on WhatsApp.
Families want to follow their children, and teachers answer the same questions every week.
- Staff access is all or nothing.
An academy can't give an accountant or a supervisor only the parts they need.
- Payments are tracked by hand.
Students pay by transfer or mobile wallet and send a photo of the receipt in a chat. Someone checks each one and updates a sheet.
- Teacher pay is counted by hand.
At the end of the month, someone adds up each teacher's hours and works out what they're owed.
Our solution
What we learned, as a product anyone can sign up for
Afaak turns what we learned from Qalb Academy into a product anyone can sign up for. A teacher or academy picks a plan, signs up, and gets its own branded website and management system right away. They add their programs, teachers and prices, publish their site, and their students and parents sign up there, under the academy's name, not ours.
Behind the scenes, every academy is a separate, private workspace. Data never mixes between academies, and Afaak never touches an academy's money.
Problems we solved
Every problem, and what we built for it
| The problem | What we built |
|---|---|
| No website of their own | A branded landing page on an Afaak address or the academy's own domain |
| Custom systems cost too much | Self-serve signup with plans for independent teachers and academies |
| Big platforms don't fit | Built only for live 1:1 teaching, white-label, under the academy's brand |
| Lessons happen on general video apps | Live 1:1 sessions with a shared whiteboard; supervisors can watch silently; never recorded |
| No clear learning path | Programs → levels → units → lessons, with progress tracked for every student |
| Exams are separate from progress | Exams at lesson, unit, level and program level, feeding progress and leaderboards |
| Parents ask for updates on WhatsApp | Parent accounts to follow lessons, exams and progress |
| Staff access is all or nothing | Roles built from a catalog of permissions, for all programs or only some |
| Payments are tracked by hand | Each academy's own payment methods and prices; receipt upload and staff approval; cash recorded too |
| Teacher pay is counted by hand | Monthly teacher statements built from hours taught and each teacher's rate |
Key features
What Afaak does
Your brand, your website
A branded landing page on an Afaak address (your-academy.afaak.com) or your own domain.
Live 1:1 sessions
A shared whiteboard. Supervisors can watch silently. Sessions are never recorded, by design.
Structured learning
Programs, levels, units and lessons, with teachers assigned to each program and progress tracked for every student.
Exams at every level
Tests for a lesson, a unit, a level or a whole program. Results feed each student's progress and the academy's leaderboards.
Parent access
Families follow their children's lessons, exams and progress.
Roles you design
Pick from a catalog of permissions to build any staff role, for all programs or only some. Ready-made roles to start: Admin, Teacher, Student, Parent, Accountant, Supervisor.
Your payments, your way
Each academy sets its own payment methods (bank transfer, mobile wallets and more), prices and currency. Students upload receipts, staff approve them, and cash is recorded too.
Monthly teacher statements
Built automatically from hours taught and each teacher's rate, with room for manual changes.
Highlight · Many separate academies
One platform. Every academy on its own.
Afaak is multi-tenant: one system serves many academies, but each one has its own brand, its own users and its own data. A student who joins two academies gets two separate accounts. Our own team can only view an academy's data to support it, and every view is logged.
